Franz Welser-Mรถst and the Orchestra explore the boundless theatrical imagination of Richard Strauss through excerpts from two treasured operas. Surrounded by his favorite paintings at Viennaโs Leopold Museum, Welser-Mรถst considers the private encounter between artwork and viewer โ just as a painting reveals different forms to different eyes, โa performance is very much determined by the audience.โ He recalls the thrill of his own first experience seeing ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฆ, and marvels at Straussโs ability to elevate humanity through music.
