Welser-Mรถst discusses freedom as a defining force in Beethovenโ€™s music, describing ๐˜“๐˜ฆ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ as philosophy made audible. In this overture, he hears a journey per aspera ad astra โ€” through difficulty, toward the stars โ€” much like the American Dream. Welser-Mรถst also reflects on Janรกฤekโ€™s precise, unrelenting style and the way the Czech language colors his music โ€” declaring the Suiteโ€™s ending โ€œan enormous triumph of the human spirit.โ€
