MOZART Divertimento No. 2
SCHOENBERG Variations for Orchestra
At home in Austria, Franz Welser-Möst takes a walk through Vienna, a city steeped in centuries of music history as the home of many famous composers — including Mozart and Schoenberg — and the storied Musikverein. Best remembered for his modernist rejection of tonal music, Schoenberg nevertheless embraced tradition later in his life. His Variations for Orchestra pays homage to classical composers like Mozart, whose Second Divertimento complements this newer Viennese work.
